CLAi Studio contains 3 products: Programming, Testfit and Cost. Programming Tool aims to quickly generate and customize space allocation, capacity, efficiency based on existing site conditions and the Google internal’s standardized rules.  .

/Context/

Background
The Google Real Estate and Workspace(REWS) team oversees an $8.6 billion portfolio of office spaces and allocations, aiming to create better work environments. However, their existing processes struggle to keep pace with the company’s evolving needs. Their leadership team decided to develop an automated platform focused on efficiency and Google-standard design.
Programming is the 1st step in the workflow: A tool for early-stage planning, providing data-driven insights to validate headcounts, room ratios, and space allocations to align with Google’s workspace vision.
STRATEGY

How does the CLAI Suite transform workspace planning & renovation?

CLAi is a unified platform for office planning, space mapping, and cost estimation, streamlining every stage of workspace design and execution.
PROBLEM
CLAi - Programming
- from NUMBERS to SPACE
The REWS team faces a fragmented and inefficient workflow, relying on a patchwork of tools—internal spreadsheets, CAD software, Revit, and more—to manage the complex lifecycle of office space planning and execution. This disjointed process involves hundreds of manual steps, leading to delays, errors, and a lack of visibility across teams.
Programming Stage
1. Tedious, cumbersome and time-consuming.
2. Poor data hierarchy and information organization.
3. Lack of automation.
4. Low efficiency, difficult to streamline repetitive tasks or integrate with other tools seamlessly.

What's Programming Tool?
A tool for early-stage planning, providing data-driven insights to validate headcounts, room ratios, and space allocations to align with Google’s workspace vision.

/Research/

User Interviews
We ran 20+ pilots based on engineering version MVP to validate the demo.
Problem Findings
1. Key metrics are critical information but they look secondary.
2. Tabs hide some important metrics and made them undiscoverable.
3. Input and output in key metrics panel confuse users.
4. Default view of program cards provides useless information.
User Types
Identified 4 types of personas based on the user research, pointed-out the scenarios and needs/demands of each
